Retail businesses in Bujumbura that use mobile money are more profitable, and the business environment matters.

The study found that mobile money integration is strongly associated with the profitability of retail small businesses, and that the business environment matters. For small businesses that banks rarely lend to, payment records are also the start of a credit history.
