Beyond finance, towards impact.

Au-delà de la finance, vers l’impact.

I’m Nella Mugisha, a finance professional from Burundi. One question runs through my work: does the money reach the people it is meant for? I ask it about goods crossing from Asia to Africa, about small businesses in Bujumbura, and about young people, who most budgets are written for and too few are written with.

What drives my work

Follow the money to the people.

Money has to reach people

At an international supply company since 2024, I work on the finance and administration that moves goods from Asia to markets in Africa. An internship at Burundi’s central bank showed me how the rules behind that money are set.

The system decides

My MBA research at an international university studied retail businesses in Bujumbura. Mobile money was strongly associated with higher profits, and the business environment mattered. Talent is rarely the gap. Access is.

Young people need a seat and a budget

Since 2023 I have sat on youth advisory bodies for international partners in Burundi, and chaired one of them for two years, carrying young people’s priorities to the people who set budgets. With Lions Clubs International since 2022, I serve where those decisions land.

“I learned finance by following the numbers. I learned leadership by following the people the numbers were about.”
